Vows

 Vows

May and June always make me think of weddings. Both my parents and my best friend were married in mid-June, so even though Frank and I got married in September (another lovely time of year), the spring and early summer just seem made for lavish celebrations outdoors filled with flowers and dancing.
I made this painting with those thoughts in mind. I just love weddings, especially the vows. It is fun to hear the vows that a couple have written themselves but I just love the traditional vows, "Till death do us part...", and so on. The beauty of the solemnity of the occasion never ceases to make me cry. I have even been at weddings where I didn't know the couple very well and I still cried, both the moment where the bride walks in and the vows pierce my heart. There is a universal transcendence about those moments, and a bravery that seems to laugh in the face of all that is dark in life and screams out a resounding, vibrant and glowing "YES!" to the universe.
